Munich/Hanover, September 4, 2018 | “Transforming Transportation.” This is the slogan of the TRATON GROUP, formerly Volkswagen Truck & Bus, which is now entering under a new name. Indeed, the first letters of the company’s new name also hint at transportation. But the term reflects several meanings: First, there is no doubt that the entire sector of the transport of goods and people is in the biggest transformation phase so far. New technologies, new players, new trends and new customer demands are transforming the truck and bus business into a new era, a new era of transportation.
At TRATON, however, transformation also takes place at an internal level. Founded only three years ago, the group combines the strengths of established truck brands such as MAN and Scania. At the same time, TRATON takes it to the next level. The past 36 months have shown that this is far more than just mere lip service: With joint synergies, partnerships with manufacturers from other regions, and focusing on profitable business, the TRATON GROUP is giving substance to its claim to become Global Champion of the transportation industry.
“We are traveling at high speed and the commercial vehicle economy in our core markets is helping us to do this. TRATON has achieved a great deal in a short time and we have proven: Together we are stronger. The cooperation of the brands creates important synergies and boosts our innovative strength. This enables growth in global competition and creates clear added value for our customers,” says Andreas Renschler, CEO of TRATON AG.
An important driver of the Group’s performance was the announcement in spring 2018 when TRATON announced that it is working on its capital market readiness. The next milestone for the company is this year’s IAA in Hanover starting in two weeks. There, for the very first time, TRATON will be present with all its brands under one roof in a common hall (Hall 12). MAN, Scania, Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus, and RIO will present a wide range of innovations—starting from alternative drive trains to current vehicle trends up to new digital business models in the transportation industry. By showing several vehicle premieres, the company emphasizes the innovative strength of its brands, both MAN as well as Scania.
